President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and others have issued messages of congratulations to the neighboring India as the country celebrates its 72nd Republic Day.
In a tweet, the President wished India a happy 72nd Republic Da, directing his message to President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well the people of India, as they celebrate the enactment of a remarkable constitution.
The President added that India continues to guide the destinies of the diverse multitudes comprising the world's largest democracy.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the parliament Mohamed Nasheed said on Twitter that India’s parliamentary democracy and pluralistic society is delivering prosperity to over a billion people.
He added that India is also helping the world to defeat the coronavirus and send felicitations of the day to Prime Minister Modi.
Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid said in his message that India has become a thriving example for “unity in diversity”, and a source of inspiration for democracies around the world.
He wished for a stronger partnership between the Maldives and India in the future.
