Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that a local man has today succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic here in the Maldives.
In a tweet, HPA said that today at 04:27 pm, an 86-year-old Maldivian man admitted at Dharumavantha Hospital 11th floor, DH11 has passed away.
HPA confirmed that this is the 51 person to die from the pandemic here in the Maldives since April of last year. This is also the third person to die from COVID-19 in the country so far this year.
The 51 people who died from the illness in the Maldives include 44 locals and 7 foreigners.
HPA had also said that the number of confirmed cases in the country include 7 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
The number of new cases is on the rise again here in the Maldives with 118 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the last three days. But authorities have been easing the lockdown measures taken to prevent the spread of the illness including allowing cinemas to open as well as allowing registered Quran classes and tuition centers to resume classes.
