Health Protection Agency HPA says a 77-year-old man has succumbed to COVID-19 in the Maldives, taking the death toll from the pandemic to 50 in the country.
In a tweet, HPA said that today at 09:50 am, a 77-year-old Maldivian man taken to IGMH/ER in an unresponsive state, was declared dead at 10:14 am.
HPA had confirmed this death as the 50th COVID-19 related death in the country since last April.
A total of 43 locals and 7 foreigners have died from the COVID-19 pandemic here in the Maldives as the total number of COVID cases reached 14,712 last night.
HPA had confirmed that 13,639 people have recovered from the illness in the Maldives with 1017 active cases of the pandemic currently in the country.
Although an upward trend of infection has emerged recently, the country is moving towards the much-awaited COVID vaccination after receiving 100,000 doses of the Covidshield vaccine from neighboring India yesterday.
HPA had said that the vaccine was being stored in its cold room and that it was being stored as per the guidelines set for the vaccine. HPA added that it was monitoring the vaccine shipment with inoculation set to begin as soon as possible.
