Many have attended the funeral of former Supreme Court Judge Mujthaaz Fahmy after he succumbed to the COVID-19 earlier today.
Health Protection Agency HPA had confirmed that a 60-year-old Maldivian man admitted at Dharumavantha Hospital 11th floor DH11 has passed away today at 02:30 am.
HPA had also said that this is the 49th person to die from COVID-19 in the country.
The former Judge was buried at Hulhumale Cemetry as per the protocol set for a COVID-19 death. His final rites were also performed as per the guidelines set for such situations.
Judge Mujthaaz first tested positive for COVID-19 on the 4th of this month after his sample was taken while on vacation in Laamu Atoll.
He was tested after he had shown symptoms of the pandemic and was taken to Laamu Atoll COVID facility once he had tested positive.
Sources have said that his condition had taken a turn for the worse yesterday and had been transferred to Male'. He had been on ventilator support but was later taken off it.
Judge Mujthaaz Fahmy had sat on the Supreme Court Bench from 18th September 2008 to 10th August 2010. He retired from the bench after that.
