Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital says the 40-year-old fisherman brought in after a shark attack today while at sea is now in stable condition.

Speaking to ‘The Press’, the Hospital’s Health Service Manager Jaufaru Abdullah said that the local fisherman had sustained three injuries on his body after the man was attacked by a shark when he fell into the water.

Jaufaru said that the injuries on his hands were likely sustained from a fish hook and that he had wounds in places on his lower leg.

He added that wounds on the victim’s lower leg resembled shark bite marks and that these were the most serious the fisherman had sustained.

Jaufaru said that the wound had bled profusely but the hospital had sent a doctor and a nurse via a sea ambulance to the boat the victim was on and had stopped the bleeding before shifting the patient to the hospital.

He assured that the man was now in stable condition and recovering well.

Maldives National Defense Force MNDF had said that its Norther Area Coast Guard had received the report of the shark attack earlier today after a local man on the fishing vessel ‘Zikura’ was attacked by a shark after he had fallen into the sea and had aided in the situation.
