Health Protection Agency HPA has lifted the 12:00 pm to 4:00 am curfew it had implemented in the Greater Male’ Area of Male’, Hulhumale’ and Villimale earlier to deter the spread of the COVID-19 global pandemic.
In an announcement, HPA rereferred to the announcement it had made on the 7th of November decreasing the curfew hours to 12:00 pm to 4:00 am and said that the agency would cancel the curfew implemented in the capital city.
This comes as HPA gradually eases the restrictions in place to fight the COVID-19 pandemic after it wreaked havoc in the island nation.
On Thursday, HPA said that it would allow sports events, celebrations, and official gatherings albeit with the guidelines set by the Agency. It said that this would be effective 20th of this month.
Earlier in the week, HPA had eased travel restrictions in the country that would allow locals and work permit holders to visit tourist resorts for short-term visits after presenting a negative PCR test.
Last night, HPA reported 26 new cases of COVID-19 in the country. It said that this included 14 new cases reported from the Greater Male’ Area, 8 new cases reported from Inhabited islands, 3 new cases confirmed from operational resorts, and 1 case identified from a safari operated in the country.
This takes the total number of COVID-19 in the country to 13,444.
HPA had said that 12,836 people have recovered from the illness in the country and that the number of active cases has dropped to 553.
It also said that 47 COVID-19 patients remain hospitalized for further treatment in the country.
The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 48 lives here in the Maldives including 41 locals and 7 foreigners. HPA had also said that the total number of confirmed cases include 7 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
