Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid says the government of the Maldives would strive to protect the rights of the Bangladeshis working in the country.
He made these comments in a video message played at the ceremony held today at the Bangladeshi High Commission in the Maldives on the occasion of its victory day celebrated on this day.
Minister Shahid noted that a number of Bangladeshis were working in different sectors of the economy in the Maldives and that they play a vital role in the economic and social development of the country.
He assured that the government of the Maldives would work to protect the rights of the Bangladeshi nationals working in the country.
Highlighting the long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries, Minister Shahid said that Bangladeshi has been aiding in its human resource development as well as enhancing its defenses, upgrading health services, and fine-tuning the education sector.
Minister Shahid noted that both the Maldives and Bangladesh had sustained devastating effects due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic and that Bangladesh has to bear more difficulties yet with its monsoon season bringing more bad news to the country.
In his message, the Minister thanked the Bangladeshi government and people for its constant support especially in facilitating the repatriation of Maldivian students stranded in Bangladesh, providing food support during the pandemic, and sending a Bangladeshi medical team to help with the COVID-19 pandemic.
