Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed says prison officers had foiled an attempt to smuggle contraband into Maafushi Prison last night.

In a tweet, he said that the attempt to smuggle these contraband was made using a drone.

He said that the officers seized 8 mobile phones, 6 chargers, a wifi router, USB cables, and 2 SIM cards.

Although the Commissioner shared a picture of the seized contraband, he did not reveal whether or not the items were confiscated.

Neither did he say if anyone was apprehended in relation to the incident reported last night.

An attempt to smuggle contraband into Maafushi Prison was made back in September of this year.

The items that were seized on that attempt include smartphones, mobile phones, chargers, and rubber packets containing drug-like substances.
