Parliament has passed a report by its committee on Member's Privileges and Ethics that stated that former Minister Abdullah Ameen gave false information to the parliament regarding the dubious transactions made between the Health Ministry and a company from Dubai.

The report compiled by the committee on whether or not Ameen lied regarding the ventilators was passed after MPs debated and deliberated on the document.

During the debate, MPs highlighted that even though such transactions occur these cases are often left forgotten without due action being taken. In response, Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed said that as long he sat at the post, cases that hindered the parliament's ethics and privileges would be investigated.

The report was passed with the vote of 57 members who took part in this evening's parliamentary sitting.

After the vote, the Speaker said that Ameen's case would be forwarded to the Prosecutor General's Office for formal charging.

Both the Anti-Corruption Commission ACC and the Auditor General's Office had indicated that there are signs of massive corruption in the transactions to buy 75 ventilators from a Dubai based company. But back in October, the Prosecutor General's Office had said that it would not charge anyone in relation to the case as there was no clear evidence of foul play.
