Maldives Meteorological Services Met Office has extended the white alert it had issued in anticipation of Cyclone Burevi, a strong weather system that is traveling towards India right now.
In its alert, the Met Office said that the Tropical Cyclone Burevi is located in the Gulf of Mannar, approximately 760 km Northeast of Haa Alifu Kelaa. It said that the system is moving towards West southwest, towards the coast of Kanniyakumari, India.
The Met Office issued another white alert moments ago from Baa Atoll to Addu City between 14:00 to 20:00hrs today.
It said that strong winds of 19-24 mph and gusts of 45 mph with rough seas and wave surges are expected during this time in these areas.
The Met Office had said yesterday that adverse weather including average strong winds and rough seas are expected over the country in the next two days because of two different weather systems currently near the Maldives.
Met Office said that it would continue providing timely updates in this regard and advised all to follow the weather forecast and alerts.
