Health Protection Agency HPA says 21 people had tested positive for COVID-19 in the country today.
In a tweet, HPA said that this includes 20 new cases from the Greater Male’ Area and 1 new case reported from an operational resort in the country.
HPA also said that this takes the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country to 13,070.
HPA also revealed that 33 people have recovered from the illness today in the Maldives and that the total number of recoveries has now surpassed 12,000 in the Maldives.
The Agency said that there are 1027 active cases of COVID-19 in the country and that 89 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.
HPA had confirmed that 47 people have died from COVID-19 in the Maldives since April of this year including 40 locals and 7 foreigners.
The country has been experiencing a steady decline of new cases of the pandemic in the last few weeks prompting the authorities to ease some of the restrictive measures taken to deter the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier today, HPA had announced that it plans to cut the quarantine duration from 14 to 10 days effective from Friday.
