Maldives Meteorological Services Met Office says due to the combined effects of two weather systems currently near the Maldives, weather conditions in the country are likely to further deteriorate in the next few days.

In a statement, the Met Office said that the tropical Cyclone ‘Burevi’ now lay approximately 200 km east-southeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka) and has intensified further. Met Office said that it is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross the Sri Lanka coast later today.

Additionally, Met Office noted that the low pressure formed Southeast of the Maldives in the Indian Ocean has intensified further and that these two separate weather systems would worsen the conditions in the country in the next two days.

It said that adverse weather including average strong winds and rough seas are expected over the country.

Met Office said that it would continue providing timely updates in this regard and advised all to follow the weather forecast and alerts.
