President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says the Maldives stands with the people of Palestine in their quest for dignity and statehood.

In a tweet, President Solih said on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the Maldives calls on the world community to recognize the legitimacy of their grievances and their right to a homeland.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid said that the Maldives reaffirms its unwavering support & solidarity with the people of Palestine and their just struggle.

In a tweet, Shahid said that peace in Palestine is integral to stability and prosperity in the Middle East.

In his recent speech at the 47th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on 27 and 28 November 2020, Foreign Minister Shahid had said that the people of Palestine are facing even more hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as they struggle for freedom and combat the virus.

Minister Shahid, once again, reiterated Maldives’ call for a two-state solution based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine. He declared that the aspirations of the Maldivian people for the peaceful Middle East is tied to that of the people of Palestine.
