Maldives National Defense Force MNDF has yet again retrieved a balloon from Google’s ‘Loon Project’ that fell into Maldivian waters.
In a tweet, MNDF said its soldiers from MNDF Southern Area Command had been working to retrieve the balloon from the sea west of Gaafu Dhaalu Vaadhoo.
MNDF had said that it had received the report of the balloon yesterday around 08:30 am and had since been monitoring the situation/
This is the second such balloon to fall into Maldivian waters in the space of two months.
Last month MNDF Coast Guard had retrieved such a device from the south of the country and had handed over the balloon to the Google Team here in the Maldives.
Google’s Loon is building a new layer of the connectivity ecosystem in the stratosphere.
Google had said that from the early days of testing weather balloons to designing and building custom launch equipment, to providing connectivity to people after natural disasters and that it is committed to tackling the challenge of extending internet access worldwide.
