Health Protection Agency HPA says the COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives has now reached 40.
HPA confirmed that yesterday a Bangladeshi national was brought to Hulhumale’ hospital in unresponsive state and was declared dead on arrival.
HPA said the 43-year-old man was tested positive for COVID-19 and later ruled that the person had died as a result of the pandemic.
HPA confirmed that he is the 40th person to die from COVID-19 in the Maldives and the second person to die from the pandemic this month. On the 6th of this month, an 88-year-old local man had died from COVID-19 while under treatment at Hulhumale Medical Facility.
The 40 individuals who died from COVID-19 in the Maldives include 33 locals and 7 foreigners.
Health Protection Agency said yesterday that the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has now reached 11,986 with 24 new cases reported on Monday.
HPA also confirmed that the number of recoveries has now reached 11,092. It said that there 847 active cases of COVID-19 in the country and 226 remained at state manned isolation facilities. HPA added that 60 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized for further treatment with 3 currently admitted to the ICU for critical care.
