Tourism Ministry says a total of 427, 212 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far this year even though the country had shut its borders for more than three months due to the global pandemic COVID-19.

The latest statistics from the Ministry revealed that from January to March of this year, some 382,760 tourists traveled to the island nation for their holidays.

It also said that only 87 tourists had arrived in the Maldives while its borders were closed between the months of April and July. The country had reopened its borders on 15th July and has been welcoming a steady flow of tourists into the country.

Statistics from the Ministry also showed that 44, 365 tourists arrived in the Maldives since it reopened its borders in mid-July.

It also said that the top source market for tourism arrival this year for the Maldives has been Russia with 9519 arrivals followed by the United Kingdom with 3817 tourist arrivals.

The United Arab Emirates stood third with 3683 tourist arrivals with other top source markets that include the United States, India, Germany, France, Ukraine, Spain, and Brazil.
