Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid says today the country is reminded of the special security threats and vulnerabilities faced by small States - an issue that Maldives raised at the UN.
He made these comments via Twitter to commemorate the 32nd Victory Day celebrated today after the country with the help of India fought off a coup d'état instigated by traitorous locals and foreign mercenaries on this day in 1988.
Minister Shahid said that today we remember the brave martyrs of the security forces and civilians who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
He said that country honors its brave soldiers who fought valiantly to protect its freedom and sovereignty.
Shahid said that the timely and invaluable military support of India on 3 November 1988 will always be remembered and that the Maldives will always be grateful to India, for being a trusted neighbor and a true friend.
The Minister added that we are also reminded of the special security threats &vulnerabilities faced by small States - an issue that Maldives raised at the UN.
He noted that the Maldives would continue to build national resilience and invest in building lasting ties to the international community - key to counter 21st-century threats.
