The government has issued MVR 116 million as income support allowance for those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Finance Ministry statistics showed that until the 22nd of this month, the government had released MVR 116 million as income support allowance to individuals whose jobs were affected by the global pandemic.
The statistics also showed that the government had given these income support allowance to 10, 538 individuals.
These allowances are issued under the MVR 2.5 billion economic relief package the government had compiled to compensate for the economic downfall caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government had begun issuing the income support allowance in May of this year through the National Social Protection Agency. Individuals whose jobs have fallen into peril due to COVID-19 can receive up to MVR 5000 as Income Support Allowance.
The COVID-19 pandemic has rendered many jobless while several have been placed on extended no pay leaves.
