Home Minister Imran Abdullah says the former administration had taken possession of the documents related to the missing reporter Ahmed Rilwan.
He made this comment while answering questions posed by the members of the parliament today after he was summoned to the legislative house.
During the questioning, MP for Naifaru constituency Ahmed Shiyam had stated that during a protest held against former President Abdullah Yameen, Imran had said that he had in his possession critical documents regarding the alleged abduction of the reporter from Minivan News and asked about the whereabouts of the said documents.
Answering the line of questioning, Minister Imran said that the former administration had arrested him during the said protest and that police had seized the documents in question after his arrest.
Imran said another investigation has to be conducted to find out what had happened to these documents.
The Minister had been sentenced to 12 years in jail for a terrorism charge following his arrest at that protest. But at the appeal trial, the Supreme Court had overruled the lower court’s verdict and ruled to free the Minister.
