Health Protection Agency HPA says another 35 individuals tested positive for COVID-19 today in the Maldives.

In a tweet, HPA said that all 35 cases were reported in the Greater Male’ Area and that these include 27 locals and 8 foreigners.

This takes the total COVID-19 cases reported in the country to 10894.

Meanwhile, HPA said that 59 individuals had recovered from the illness in the Maldives on Sunday and that the total number of recoveries has now reached 9742.

HPA also said that the number of active cases in the country has dropped from 1135 to 1110 in the last 24 hours. It also said that the number of individuals under isolation has now decreased from 376 to 368 since yesterday.

HPA added that 72 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized for further treatment at the moment.

The Agency highlighted that 21 islands in the country have 152 active cases of COVID-19 and that no island is currently under monitoring. HPA confirmed that 20 resorts also have active cases of the pandemic which includes 10 tourists and 16 staff.

HPA had reported earlier today that a 56-year-old local woman had succumbed to the illness in the Maldives today. It said that the woman had died while under treatment at DH11.

She was the first person to die from the pandemic this month and the 35th person to die from COVID-19 since April.

The COVID-19 pandemic has now claimed the lives of 29 locals and 6 foreigners since it reached the country’s shores back in March. Most of the locals who have died from the pandemic were elderly individuals with underlying health conditions.
