The government says this year’s National Awards, previously scheduled to be presented to recipients during National Day Function, has been deferred to a later date.

The announcement was made today following the President’s decision not to hold the annual National Day Functions due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The President’s Office has also announced that the 2020 National Awards would be presented to recipients at a special function at a later date and that the date will be contingent on the country’s developing situation with regard to Covid-19.

Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that 10,859 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives since March of this year when the pandemic first reached the country's shores.

Since then 9683 people have also recovered from the illness while 34 individuals have succumbed to the pandemic here in the Maldives.
