Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC says a total of 23 individuals have now tested positive for COVID-19 from the state-run children’s home in Hulhumale’, Fiyavathi.
Speaking to the media, HEOC Spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq said that the 23 individuals include 11 children from the home along with 11 care workers and 1 staff member.
Dr. Nazla added that two of the positive cases were confirmed yesterday.
Authorities had confirmed last Wednesday that 13 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed from Fiyavathi and now that number has reached 23.
Earlier, Gender Ministry had said that a staff working at Fiyavathi had tested positive for COVID-19 after presenting at a flu clinic on the 30th of last month with COVID like symptoms.
The Ministry also said that the staff member had been working on the floor that houses boys between the ages of 10 to 13 and hence all the children on the floor had been placed under quarantine.
Gender had also said these children were tested and that 8 had tested positive for COVID-19. It said that the infected children included a high-risk positive case and that the child had now been shifted to Hulhumale Medical Facility along with a care worker. The Ministry assured that authorities were closely monitoring the child and that the child appeared to be doing fine.
The Ministry added that other children who had tested positive for COVID-19 had now been moved to an isolation facility as per the instruction of the HPA and that all the children were doing well.
