Home Minister Imran Abdullah says this administration would not give immunity to drug traffickers as Maldivian authorities team up with their international counterparts to make a major drug bust in the country.
In a tweet, Minister Imran noted that Maldives Police Services were undertaking several initiatives and operations to prevent drug trafficking in the Maldives.
He said that the drug supply in the country has taken a hit because of the current administration’s refusal to give immunity to drug traffickers behind the drug operations.
Minister Imran had lauded the work of the local police officers who had made the on-sea drug bust yesterday day.
Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed had said via twitter that Approximately 80 kgs of narcotic drugs seized in Addu City yesterday.
He said the operation was carried out solely on locally developed intelligence and policing work.
He said that the Police force will be engaging with its international partners as the investigation progresses and reaffirmed its intent on disrupting the supply of drugs in the Maldives.
Media reports from around the world suggest that the bust had thwarted a major international drug trafficking network that involved several countries across the Indian and Arabian Ocean.
