Health Protection Agency HPA says 44 individuals tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives on Friday.
In a tweet, HPA said 40 cases were confirmed from the Greater Male’ Area while 4 were reported from the islands.
HPA also said the cases reported yesterday include 38 locals and 6 foreigners.
This takes the total number of positive cases reported in the island nation to 10398.
On Friday, HPA said that 26 people have recovered from the illness in the Maldives. It said that this has taken the total number of recoveries to 9213.
This leaves 1444 active cases of COVID-19 in the country. HPA confirmed that 516 individuals remained under isolation at various facilities across the country. It also reported that 79 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.
The HPA has been reporting a decline in new cases of COVID-19 for the past couple of weeks as authorities tightened the restrictive measures taken against the pandemic earlier last month.
Authorities had made wearing face masks in public mandatory in the Greater Male’ Area and any other island with active cases of COVID-19. Authorities had also imposed a 7-hour curfew in the capital Male’ from 10 pm to 5 am daily and a vehicular ban in the city from 8 pm to 5 am every night.
Officials have explained these restrictive measures were taken to further restrict movement and prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The global pandemic has claimed 34 lives here in the Maldives with 28 locals and 6 foreigners all succumbing to the illness since April.
