MP for Maduvaree Constituency Adam Shareef Umar says the former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s confession made in the court this week could be part of a ‘deal’ to protect some individuals.
In a tweet, MP Shareef said unless the former VP revealed a legitimate list of people who were involved in the scam in giving, receiving, and making payments via banks, the people of the country would not trust Adeeb again.
He said that the public would always question his genuineness unless Adeeb discloses a full list of wrongdoers.
MP Shareef went onto say that Adeeb pleading guilty to all the seven charges filed against him by the state could also be part of the deal.
This comes after the former VP Adeeb said at court on Wednesday that there are no political parties who have not financially benefitted from the MMPRC scam.
At the court hearing, Adeeb had pled guilty to all 7 charges filed against him in regard to the MMPRC scandal.
Adeeb went onto say that he had already spent five years in jail in relation to these charges and that he now regrets all the bad decisions he has made.
Adeeb said he has now repented for the crimes he had committed in the past and that he begs forgiveness from the state and its nation for all the wrong he had done by misusing the power and authority he once had.
The former VP said this current regime had the capability to fully unravel the MMPRC graft case and that there is some information that would never be uncovered if he remained silent.
Adeeb also said all those involved in one of the biggest scams reported in the country must be brought to justice and that no exceptions should be made.
