Authorities have confirmed another case of COVID-19 from Haa Alifu Kelaa.

Speaking to ‘The Press’ President of Kelaa Council Adam Ufran said that a foreigner had tested positive for COVID-19 from the island and that the expatriate worker had been brought to the island by a private contractor.

He also said that the person tested positive for COVID-19 upon giving his sample having completed the mandatory 14-days of quarantine following travels from the Greater Male’ Area.

Ufran also said samples were taken from 6 others who had completed their home quarantine but none of their results came back positive.

Kelaa had last confirmed a case of COVID-19 on the 11th of last month.

Health Protection Agency HPA had reported last night that 24 islands across the country are hosting 90 active cases of COVID-19 at the moment and that Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo still remained under monitoring.

It had also said 21 resorts have COVID-19 cases including 10 tourists and 17 staff.

A total of 10354 people has tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives with 9187 having recovered from the illness. The country had reported 34 COVID-19 deaths since April including 28 locals and 6 foreigners.
