Health Protection Agency HPA says 37 more individuals have tested positive for global pandemic COVID-19 on Tuesday in the Maldives.
In a tweet, it said that 34 of those cases were reported from the Greater Male’ Area while 3 were confirmed from the islands and resorts.
HPA added that the new cases reported on Tuesday include 31 locals and 6 foreigners.
The total number of COVID-19 cases has now reached 10194.
Meanwhile, the number of recoveries hit another milestone in the country today as HPA confirmed 37 individuals had recovered from the illness on Tuesday. This takes the total number of recoveries beyond 9000 in the Maldives to 9037.
HPA reported that the country currently has 1116 active cases of COVID-19 with 556 in the isolation facilities. HPA also said that 80 COVID-19 patients are currently under treatment at various facilities across the country.
The Agency said that 23 inhabited islands in the country are currently hosting 35 active cases of COVID-19 and that Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo still remained under monitoring after authorities declared a local transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic on the island.
HPA added that 23 resorts also have active cases of COVID-19 and that these include 11 tourists and 20 staff.
The COVID-19 pandemic reached the Maldivian shores in March of this and have killed 34 individuals since April. This includes 28 locals and 6 foreigners while authorities also said that confirmed cases of COVID-19 include 7 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to the pandemic.
