Health Protection Agency HPA reports another 59 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives on Monday.

In a tweet, HPA said that 54 cases were reported from the Greater Male Area yesterday while 5 cases were confirmed from the islands and resorts.

HPA also said that the new cases include 47 locals and 12 foreigners.

It has taken the total number of positive cases in the country to 10157 since the Maldives reported its first case of COVID-19 back in March.

Meanwhile, HPA confirmed that 103 individuals had recovered from the illness on Monday taking the total recoveries to a promising 8950.

HPA reported that the number of active cases of COVID-19 in the country has now dropped from 1210 to 1166 since Sunday. It also said that 8 people were released from the isolation facilities on Sunday and that 612 individuals still remained under isolation at various state-run facilities.

The Agency said that 82 COVID-19 patients were currently hospitalized for further medical treatment.

HPA also said that 22 inhabited islands across the country are hosting 38 active cases of COVID-19 currently. It also said that only Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Hoadehdhoo remained under monitoring as the agency had lifted the island City of Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi and the neighboring Nolhivaram from monitoring yesterday.

HPA reported that 23 resorts also have active cases of COVID-19 right now and that they include 11 tourists and 24 staff.

The COVID-19 pandemic has killed 34 individuals here in the Maldives including 28 locals and 6 foreigners.
