The government has deferred rent payments for three months for the flats issued under its housing program in the Greater Male’ Area as well as in the atolls.
In an announcement, the Housing Ministry said that the rent deferment extended by the government for the housing flats due to the COVID-19 pandemic had expired in August of this year.
But with several tenants requesting an extension on the deferment, the rent payment has been pushed back for another three months. It said that these three months would include the rent payment for September to November 2020.
The Ministry noted that even though the rent has been deferred for three months, tenants have to pay the maintenance fee for the housing units during those three months.
It added that the deferment period would be added to the existing rental agreement.
Housing Ministry urged those who wish to apply for the rent deferment to email their request to the Ministry along with a copy of the Identify Card and agreement number before 1:00 pm on 15th October.
