Health Protection Agency HPA records 53 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives on Sunday.
In a tweet, HPA said that 47 of these cases were reported from the Greater Male’ Area while 6 cases confirmed from the Islands and resorts.
HPA also said that the new cases include 42 locals and 11 foreigners.
This takes the total number of positive cases reported in the Maldives since March to 10098.
Meanwhile, HPA said that 93 individuals had recovered from the illness on Sunday taking the total recoveries closer to 9000 at 8847.
HPA confirmed that 1210 remained as active cases of COVID-19 across the country and that 620 individuals are currently under isolation at state-run facilities.
HPA reported that 83 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
The Agency also clarified that 19 inhabited islands in the country are hosting active cases of COVID-19. It said that Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo, Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi, and Nolhivaram remained under monitoring.
HPA also said that the 23 resorts on the island have active cases of COVID-19 at the moment and that this includes 12 tourists and 30 resort staff.
The global pandemic has claimed 1 million lives worldwide and here in the Maldives, 34 individuals have succumbed to the illness since April. This includes 28 locals and 6 foreigners.
HPA had also said that confirmed cases of COVID-19 include 7 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
