Health Protection Agency HPA says 54 individuals tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday in the Maldives

In its latest update, HPA said 50 cases were reported from the Greater Male’ Area while 4 others were confirmed from the islands and resorts.

HPA also said that the new cases included 30 locals and 24 foreigners. The total positive cases of COVID-19 reported in the Maldives has now reached 9939 since the island nation reported its first case of the global pandemic back in March.

Meanwhile, HPA said that 67 individuals had recovered from COVID-19 today in the Maldives and that this has taken the total recoveries to a promising 8597.

The Agency said that the number of active cases in the country has dropped from 1315 to 1301 since Wednesday and that the number of individuals placed under isolation has also reduced from 656 to 645.

HPA said 6 COVID-19 patients were released from hospitals on Thursday and that now only 87 COVID-19 patients remained under treatment at various centers.

HPA noted that 21 islands across the country are hosting 40 active cases of COVID-19 at the moment. It added that Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo remained under monitoring following a local transmission of the COVID-19 infection on the island which was detected earlier this month.

HPA added that 26 resorts also have active cases of COVID-19 and that this includes 14 tourists and 34 staff.

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 34 lives here in the Maldives including 28 locals and 6 foreigners.
