Health Protection Agency HPA reports 67 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives as the surge in new cases continue to die down in the island nation.
In a tweet, HPA said that 65 cases were reported from the Greater Male’ Area on Wednesday while 2 others were confirmed from the islands and resorts.
HPA said that the new cases include 33 locals and 34 foreigners.
This takes the total positive cases reported in the Maldives closer to 10000 at 9885.
Meanwhile, HPA confirmed that 92 individuals have recovered from the illness on Wednesday in the Maldives. This takes the total recoveries to 8530.
HPA also reported that there are 1315 active cases of COVID-19 in the country at the moment with 656 individuals under isolation.
The Agency also noted that 93 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized for further treatment at various treatment centers across the country.
The Health Protection Agency said that at the moment 24 islands across the nation are hosting 42 active cases of COVID-19. It said that Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo remained under monitoring as authorities work to quell a local transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic on the island.
HPA also said 25 resorts also have active cases of COVID-19 which includes 15 tourists and 33 staff.
A total of 34 individuals have died from COVID-19 in the Maldives since April of this year. This includes 28 locals and 6 foreigners.
Most of the locals who have succumbed to the pandemic were elderly individuals with underlying health conditions. Although a 42-year-old woman had also died from COVID-19 in the Maldives.
