Health Protection Agency HPA confirms 48 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives on Tuesday as the daily cases reported in the country continue to drop.
HPA said that 47 cases were reported in the Greater Male’ Area while the remaining one case was confirmed from the islands.
It said the new cases included 28 locals and 20 foreigners.
The total number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in the country has now reached 9818.
Meanwhile, HPA said on Tuesday that 48 individuals had recovered from the illness yesterday in the Maldives. This takes the total recoveries to 8438.
HPA also said that active cases remained the same as Monday at 1340 and that 674 individuals were isolated at various facilities across the country.
The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients have also dropped on Tuesday from 96 to 92.
The Agency said that 23 islands across the country are hosting active cases of COVID-19 and that Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo still remained under monitoring. It also said that 25 resorts also have active cases of COVID-19 and this includes 16 tourists and 34 staff.
Although HPA had confirmed that case numbers have decreased over the last couple of weeks, it conceded that it’s too early to say that the number of positives per day is consistently declining.
HPA also said that it’s too early to ease the restrictive measures taken against the pandemic and that everyone must continue following safety measures diligently for case numbers to come down and for the country to slow the spread of COVID-19.
A total of 34 individuals have succumbed to COVID-19 in the Maldives since April. This includes 28 locals and 6 foreigners.
