Health Protection Agency HPA says 46 individuals in the Maldives tested positive for COVID-19 today.

In a tweet, HPA said 44 new cases reported from the Greater Male’ Area while 2 others were confirmed from the islands and resorts.

HPA also said the new cases include 31 locals and 15 foreigners.

Today’s positive cases take the total reported cases in the Maldives closer to 10,000 at 9770.

Meanwhile, HPA said that 129 individuals had recovered from the illness in the country on Monday. With this, the total number of recoveries has now reached 8390.

HPA also said that the number of active cases of COVID-19 has dropped from 1424 to 1340 in the last 24 hours. It added that the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has also dropped from 107 to 96 since yesterday.

HPA noted that 692 individuals remained under isolation at various facilities across the country.

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 34 lives here in the Maldives including 28 locals and 6 foreigners. Earlier today, HPA had confirmed that a 90-year-old local man had succumbed to the pandemic while under treatment at Hulhumale Medical Facility. He was the 6th person to die from COVID-19 in the Maldives this month.

Although HPA had confirmed that case numbers have decreased over the last couple of weeks, it conceded that it’s too early to say that the number of positives per day is consistently declining.

HPA also said that it’s too early to ease the restrictive measures taken against the pandemic and that everyone must continue following safety measures diligently for case numbers to come down and for the country to slow the spread of COVID-19.
