Former MP Ismail Zakaria has succumbed to COVID-19 in the Maldives today.

He is the 5th person to die from COVID-19 in the country this month and the 33rd individual to die

In a tweet, HPA said that today at 02:22 pm, a 79 years old Maldivian male admitted at DH11 has passed away.

The former MP’s family confirmed that he was the one who died earlier and had been under treatment at Dharumavantha Hospital 11th floor DH11.

Zakaria’s family had also said that he had been in critical condition and that he had been on ventilator support.

Out of the 33 who have died from COVID-19 in the Maldives, 27 were locals while 6 foreigners have also succumbed to the pandemic here in the Maldives.

Authorities have confirmed 9173 cases of COVID-19 in the country since March with 121 individuals tested positive yesterday alone.

Authorities have also stated that 7326 individuals have recovered from the pandemic here in the Maldives.
