Authorities in Alifu Alifu Atoll Ukulhas say the woman who died while under home quarantine on the island suffered from long term illnesses.

Speaking to ‘The Press’ Vice President of Ukulhas Council Abdullah Firaaq said a 66-year-old woman under home quarantine on the island had passed away. He said this cannot be ruled as a COVID-19 death and that the woman had been battling long-term illnesses.

Firaaq said the woman had died after suffering breathing difficulties and had traveled for treatment to Male’ two days ago. He said the woman had been quarantined after returning from Male’ and had tested negative for COVID-19 after giving her sample in the capital.

Firaaq also confirmed that the woman had not presented COVID-19 like symptoms in the past two days and authorities in the islands have tested the individual for COVID-19 posthumously as per Health Protection Agency guideline.

Earlier today a 58-year-old local woman had died from COVID-19 taking the total COVID-19 deaths in the country to 32.
