Health Protection Agency HPA confirms 66 new cases of COVID-19 in the country as the number of new cases continues to drop in the Maldives.
In a tweet, HPA said 63 cases were confirmed from the Greater Male’ Area while 3 were reported from the islands.
HPA also said the new cases include 50 locals and 10 foreigners.
With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives now stands at 8900.
Meanwhile, HPA said 271 individuals had recovered from the illness today in the Maldives. This takes the total number of recoveries to 6559.
HPA said that the active cases in the country has dropped from 2509 to 2304 in the last 24 hours.
It also said that the individuals placed under isolation have also decreased from 1034 to 1029 on Thursday.
However, HPA said 7 more individuals with COVID-19 were hospitalized for further treatment today taking the total admitted patients to 134.
HPA reported an overall drop in positive cases after implementing several restrictive measures in the Greater Male’ Area where the infection is rampant.
These measures include making facemask mandatory in the public, banning vehicular activities from 8 pm to 5 am every day, and also imposing a 7-hour curfew in the Greater Male’ Area from 10 pm to 5 am on a daily basis.
The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 31 lives here in the Maldives include 25 locals and 6 foreigners.
