Health Protection Agency HPA says an additional 83 cases of COVID-19 were reported in the country as the number of new cases continues to fall.

In a tweet, HPA said that 82 cases were confirmed from the Greater Male’ Area while only one case was reported from the islands.

HPA also said the new cases include 61 locals and 22 foreigners.

This takes the total positive cases to 8667.

HPA also confirmed that 35 islands in the country are hosting active cases of COVID-19 at the moment and the islands of Gaafu Alifu Hoaedehdhoo and Madaveli remained under monitoring as authorities scrambled to rule out a community outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in both the islands.

HPA added that 22 resorts are also hosting active cases of COVID-19 which include 19 tourists and 48 staff.

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 29 lives here in the Maldives including 23 locals and 6 foreigners.

Authorities have strengthened the restrictive measures taken against the pandemic with a ban on vehicular activities in the Greater Male’ Area from 8 pm to 5 am every night. Authorities have also imposed a curfew in the capital from 10 pm to 5 am to further restrict the movement of people within the Greater Male’ Area where pandemic is rampant.
