Superintendent of Police Hussain Sameer of Police Hussain Sameer says 274 individuals have been fined for violating the vehicular ban imposed in the Greater Male’ Area in the last 9 days.

Speaking at the latest press briefing host by the Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC, Sameer said since the ban on vehicles in the capital city went into effect on the 23rd of this month, 1095 individuals have been cautioned for violating the ban.

He noted that 274 others have been fined in that period for repeating the offense.

Sameer also said that police have cautioned 2901 individuals for failing to wear a facemask while out in public while police have fined 1188 people for repeating the offense.

He highlighted that 3813 people have been cautioned for violating the 7-hour curfew imposed in Male’ from 10 pm to 5 am every day while another 1580 have been fined for repeating the violation.

Authorities in the Maldives have strengthened the measures taken against the pandemic this month which include imposing a 7-hour curfew in the Greater Male’ Area as well as banning vehicular activities from 8 pm to 5 am in the capital city. Authorities have also made it mandatory now to wear facemasks in the public in the Greater Male’ Area and any other island with active cases of COVID-19.
