Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed 89 new cases of COVID-19 today as the number of new cases dropped for two straight days.

In a tweet, HPA said all except one case identified today were reported from the Greater Male’ Area.

It said that the new cases included 63 Maldivians, 20 Bangladeshis, 5 Indians, and 1 Sri Lankan.

The new cases have taken the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives to 7667 since it reported its first case back in March.

Meanwhile, in a separate tweet, HPA said that 31 inhabited islands in the country are currently hosting COVID-19 cases across the country.

It also said that 15 resorts in the country are hosting active cases of COVID-19 which includes 15 tourists and 19 resort staff.

The pandemic has claimed 28 lives here in the Maldives including 22 locals and 6 foreigners.
