Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has sent a message of condolence to the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Haneef Atmar following the devastating floods in the Parwan Province., Afghanistan.
In his message, the Minister said that it was with great sadness and sorrow that he received the news of the loss of lives and livelihoods, and destruction of homes caused by torrential rains and flash floods in the Parwan Province of Afghanistan.
He said that at this time of tragedy, no doubt compounded by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government and the people of Maldives extend their profound condolences and sympathies to the Minister, Government and the people of Afghanistan.
He requested the Afghani Minister to also convey the deepest condolences to the members of the bereaved families.
Minister Shahid added that he sincerely hoped that the efforts of the response teams continue swiftly and successfully, and praise the perseverance of the brotherly people of Afghanistan during this crisis.
Officials in Parwan, just north of the capital Kabul, said that 116 people were killed and more than 120 injured, with 15 people still missing.
