Health Protection Agency HPA confirms that 140 more individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives on Friday as authorities look to quell the recent surge of cases in the country.
In a tweet, HPA said that out of the 140 new cases 134 were reported from the Greater Male’ Area and that 6 were confirmed from the islands.
HPA said the new cases included 114 Maldivians, 17 Bangladeshis, 3 Indians, 2 Nepalese, 2 Emiratis, 1 Kenyan, and 1 French national.
This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases to a staggering 7469.
Meanwhile, HPA reported that 32 islands in the country are currently hosting COVID-19 cases along with 15 resorts. HPA said there are 15 tourists and 19 staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 on these 15 resorts.
The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 28 lives in the Maldives including 22 Maldivians and 6 foreigners.
