Members of the Male’ City council has denied a media report that states that former President and current speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed had threatened the council members at a meeting.
Citing a media report published by Sun Online, members of the council that took part in the said meeting said in a statement that although the report says that president Nasheed had threatened members present at the meeting, it was false and lacked any foundation.
The statement reiterated that as the leader of MDP President Nasheed had met the MDP members on the Male’ City Council and some were manipulating the situation to seek political gain by spreading false news about the meeting.
It went on to say that the MDP way was to have discussions on matters of importance and that the party would continue to do so in the future.
Councilors Ahmed Shameeru, Hussain Shareef, Ahmed Niyaz and Hamna Waheed had all signed the statement.
