Vice President Faisal Naseem has inspected Velaana International Airport today to observe the enhancement measures taken at the airport amid a surge of COVID-19 cases in the country.

In a tweet, Maldives Airports Company Ltd MACL said that the VP was briefed by CEO and MD of MACL Gordon Andrew Stuart.

VP Naseem was accompanied by the Ministry of Tourism Dr. Abdullah Mausoom and Chief of Defense Force Major General Abdullah Shamal along with other airport stakeholders.

MACL has said that it had further enhanced safety measures taken against the growing pandemic and has increased such measures around the airport.

The country reopened its borders last July and has since welcomed hundreds of tourists and passengers.

The Maldives closed its borders earlier this year as a restrictive measure to deter the fast-spreading COVID-19 pandemic.
