Health Protection Agency HPA confirms that 178 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives as the pandemic shows no sign of slowing down.

In a tweet, HPA said that out of the 178 new cases, 176 cases were reported from the Greater Male’ Area and the other two were confirmed from the atolls.

HPA said the new cases include 141 Maldivians, 25 Bangladeshis, 10 Indians, and 2 Spaniards.

The new cases have taken the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the Maldives to 7225.

Meanwhile, HPA confirmed 122 individuals recovered from COVID-19 today in the Maldives taking the total number of recoveries to 4561.

However, 2636 individuals remained as active cases of COVID-19 in the country with 1458 placed under state-run isolation facilities. The number of hospitalized individuals has now reduced to 162 from 173 yesterday.

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 28 lives in the Maldives including 22 locals and 6 foreigners.
