Health Protection Agency HPA confirms 145 new cases of COVID-19 in the country today as individuals from 7 different countries tested positive for the pandemic here in the Maldives.

In a tweet, HPA said that out of the 145 new cases 142 reported from the Greater Male’ Area while 3 were confirmed from the islands.

HPA said the new cases include 123 Maldivians, 11 Bangladeshis, 3 Indians, 5 Sri Lankans, 1 Nepalese, 1 Japanese national, and a Jordanian.

The new cases have taken the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 6370.

HPA also said while 3915 individuals have now recovered from the illness 2431 still remained as active cases of COVID-19. It said that 1355 individuals have now been isolated at various facilities across the nation while 161 individuals have been hospitalized for further treatment.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has claimed 24 lives in the island nation of Maldives including 19 locals and 5 foreigners.

Most of the locals who succumbed to the pandemic were elderly patients with underlying health issues although earlier this week a 41-year-old local woman died from COVID-19 in the Maldives.

The foreigners who passed away from COVID-19 include 4 Bangladeshi nationals and 1 Filipino national.
