Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed an additional 170 cases of COVID-19 in the country taking the total number of cases well beyond 6000 since March.
In a tweet, HPA said that out of the 170 cases 169 were reported in the Greater Male’ Area and that 1 case was reported in the Islands.
It said that the new cases include 139 Maldivians, 23 Bangladeshis, 7 Indians, and 1 South African national.
This takes the total number of cases in the country to a staggering 6079.
Meanwhile, HPA reported that 160 individuals recovered from the illness today in the Maldives. This has taken the total number of recoveries to 3648.
HPA confirmed that there are 2407 active cases of COVID-19 in the country with 144 still hospitalized due to the illness.
HPA also said that 1427 individuals remained under isolation at state manned facilities across the country.
The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 24 lives here in the Maldives with 8 dying this month alone.
Earlier today, HPA confirmed that a 41-year-old local woman had died from COVID-19 while under treatment at state hospital IGMH.
A total of 19 locals have succumbed to the Pandemic in the country while 5 foreigners have also died from COVID-19 since the pandemic reached the country’s shores earlier this year.
