Health Protection Agency (HPA) closed down a total of 258 different establishments through their 'Public Health Mass Inspection', reports the authority on Tuesday, 11 August.

According to the authority, the lates inspection was their second such initiative following Covid-19 outbreak in Maldives.

HPA reports that a total of 1,545 venues were inspected from the Greater Male' Region, inclusive of Hulhumale', Vilimale' along with Thilafushi and Hulhule'.

Inspections were conducted on establishments that are regarded as high-contact venues such as saloons, gyms as well as restaurants and cafes or any such venue that attract people in large numbers.

The health authority inspected a total of 1,179 venues from Male' City out of which 204 establishments were issued with temproary shutdown order after they were discovered with subpar health standards.

Meanwhile, HPA inspected 296 establishments from Hulhumale' while issuing out shutdown orders to 48 venues. A total of 51 establishments from Vilimale' were inspected with 3 shutdowns and 17 inspections from Thilafushi with 3 shutdowns.

Additionally HPA inspected 3 venues from Hulhule', which houses the Velana International Airport, and issued temporary shutdown notice to 2 establishments.

Moreover HPA reports a total of 486 establishments included in their mass inspection were cafes and restaurants out of which 91 included among the venues receiving temporary shutdown notice.

Furthemore 908 of the venues inspected by HPA were shops out of which 107 received temporary shutdown notice and 112 saloons were inspected of which 51 received the notice.
