Health Protection Agency HPA confirms that a 67-year-old local man has died of COVID-19 in the Maldives today.
In a tweet, HPA said today at 12:12 pm, a 67 yrs old Maldivian male at IGMH ER had passed away.
He was taken to hospital on 10th August afternoon.
The man is the 15th local to die of COVID-19 in the country since April and the 20th person to die of the illness in total.
The 67-year-old is also the third person to have passed away from COVID-19 after seeking treatment from IGMH ER for breathing difficulties in the last two weeks.
The 20 individuals who passed away from COVID-19 in the country include 15 locals and 5 foreigners. The locals who have died of COVID-19 are mostly elderly patients with underlying health conditions but recently a 52-year-old had died of COVID-19 in the country.
The 5 foreigners who died of COVID-19 include 5 Bangladeshi national and 1 Filipino national.
A total of 5157 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in the country and 2303 remain as active cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
