Health Protection Agency HPA has closed 245 establishments for failing to adhere to the guidelines set by the agency to prevent the further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a tweet, HPA confirmed that it had inspected 111 establishments on Friday and that it has closed down 15 of those inspected.

HPA said that it had closed down 6 café’s/ restaurants, 6 shops and 3 salons/barber shops yesterday.

With this HPA has inspected 1416 establishments since the 31st of July and has closed down 245 of these establishments for disobeying HPA guidelines.

Health Protection Agency has said that the forced closure is only temporary and that the establishments can re-open their business once they adhere to the HPA guidelines. However, HPA said that they can only reopen once HPA reinspects the establishment.

The Agency initiated the large scale inspection following the massive surge of new cases in the country especially in the Male’ Area.

Health Protection Agency HPA has reported over 600 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 5 days. Active cases have been confirmed in 12 islands and 7 resorts in the country with the total number of COVID-19 cases now standing at 4769.
